Behind the Scenes
Festive Trend Talk
The Holiday Season has arrived and we’re preparing our outfits for our busy social calendars ahead. During our Destination Sparkle photoshoot, we sat down with our three models – Kathie, Arjan, and Hanna – to talk about their personal favourite party outfits, gift ideas for close friends and new acquaintances, and how they switch up their skincare routine during the colder months.
1. What’s your go-to New Year’s Eve outfit?
I like to wear something extra special, like a black dress with a big gold necklace, a colourful handbag, or sequinned tights. Adding a little bit extra with one statement piece. Gold or silver accessories work well too to bring a bit of excitement to my outfit.
2. And what’s your usual hair and make-up look for New Year’s Eve?
I go for something quite minimalistic, but like by outfit, I like to add one special element. For example, a darker lipstick with no eye make-up, or a natural base with gold eyeshadow. My friend once told me that wearing one red thing brings good luck for the year ahead, so now we both always wear red nail polish on New Year’s Eve.
3. How do you switch up your haircare or skincare routine in the Winter?
I use richer products in the Winter when all the radiators are on. I use a cream hair mask or oil to hydrate - in the Summer it would be too much, but in the Winter my hair soaks it up. It’s the same for my skin, it absorbs moisturiser like a sponge!
4. What are your favourite Winter wardrobe staples?
I have a huge red hooded puffer coat - it feels like you’re walking around in a sleeping bag! It’s my current favourite piece. I also like cosy fluffy sweaters that still look chic. The cut and colour can make it feel more sophisticated.
5. What's your perfect festive look for the holiday season?
My family and I celebrate on December 24th and I like an outfit that is a little bit extra. Last year I wore a huge glittery necklace. Even if I just stay home, during the day I’ll wear something comfortable, then in the evening it’s fun to get ready and dress up.
6. What kinds of gifts do you consider great presents?
For my friends I sometimes get them a lipstick in a colour they like, but a gift card is nice for the people who love to go shopping. For something more personal I always choose accessories.
1. What’s your go-to New Year’s Eve outfit?
It depends where I am. If I’m in Europe, it’s always baggy jeans and I usually go for blue tones instead of the traditional festive red. I pair this with a baggy shirt and casual sneakers.
2. And what’s your usual hair and make-up look for New Year’s Eve?
After I wash my hair, I put a matte wax through it and let it dry naturally. It makes my hair curl up nicely and is so easy to do. For skincare, at night I put on a Korean serum that keeps my skin moisturised during the day. I use it all year round and it really makes my skin glow.
3. How do you switch up your haircare or skincare routine in the Winter?
I have a simple face cream I like to wear that contains SFP. Then for lips I’ll also keep it simple with a moisturising balm. It’s just about keeping my skin hydrated.
4. What are your favourite Winter wardrobe staples?
My oversized black leather jacket with buckle details. It’s not padded so I can layer anything with it, like a t-shirt if it’s warmer or a hoodie if it’s a bit colder. I have a pair of boots with a thick sole that go really well with the jacket.
5. What's your perfect festive look for the holiday season?
I always go for novelty, oversized Christmas jumpers with a Santa Claus or something like this knitted on the front. I keep it comfortable with sweatpants – something easy.
6. What kinds of gifts do you consider great presents?
A handbag or jewellery are great gifts, but you need to know their style. A high-quality perfume or fragrance is also a great choice. I love fragrances and wear them a lot. The bottle lasts a long time and one spray will last the entire day.
1. What’s your go-to New Year’s Eve outfit?
For New Year’s Eve I just want to be comfortable because I usually host and cook. So I’ll wear jeans and ballet flats but jazz it up with a cute little headband. I also love bows, these are my obsession right now. Sometimes there’s so much pressure for New Year's to go big, but for me, I just have fun and enjoy.
2. And what’s your usual hair and make-up look for New Year’s Eve?
Keeping it natural is my overall vibe. I create a small cat eye with my kohl pencil eyeliner and then pop on some mascara. I like a little bit of shimmer, and then a subtle lip colour. For my hair, I usually go for a low bun with a middle parting and a little bit of fringe out in the front. Easy and natural.
3. How do you switch up your haircare or skincare routine in the Winter?
A lot of hydration! In the evening, I use a heavier moisturiser that sinks into my skin until the next morning. I use an SFP year-round as well. My hair can get quite frizzy from the indoor heating, so I use salt spray to give it body and set it.
4. What are your favourite Winter wardrobe staples?
I have an oversized leather jacket that I love – it goes with everything. I also have a vintage camel military-style coat. It's another oversized piece that also works with everything. I have a few wool and cashmere sweaters that I always love to pull out every year, and a good pair of wool socks are also a favourite.
5. What's your perfect festive look for the holiday season?
Christmas is where I take it up a notch. I usually visit my family and we all wear something special. If the weather is really cold then high-waisted trousers will win over a dress because I want to be comfortable. I’ll wear this with my fluffy Alpaca knit jumper in a deep Bordeaux colour – it's very Christmasy.
6. What kinds of gifts do you consider great presents?
Jewellery with birthstones or personalised with initials and letters is how I'd gift something more personalised. Because fashion is so unique for everyone, if you don’t know them well, then I would go for something more practical like leather gloves, which is still a lovely quality gift.
